Speaker 2:Welcome to how Do you Skate. I am your host, sean Egan. Today's episode will be a little different. It's going to be a shorter episode. I'm just going to talk about skate maintenance. Today we're going to cover inlines and quads.
Speaker 2:One of the few things that really need to be maintained on skates is your wheels and bearings. They get worn down. Bearings get dirty, so the best thing to do is one rotate your wheels, which is a common thing. So you rotate your wheels to keep the wear on them even. Also, take the bearings and you clean the bearings. I use a product called Monkey Lube where you soak them, but it also lubricates the bearings. At the same time and this is really important if you do not have a shield on it, it's good to soak them to make sure you keep that lubrication going, that you keep the bearings flowing smoothly and they do get dirty. I use ceramic bearings and cleaning them is a common part of the maintenance. Another thing that I do is I also clean the wheels.
Speaker 2:Especially with rink skates, you want to make sure the wheels are clean. It does pick up a lot of stuff, not to mention that when you do skate at a rink, a lot from the carpets, on the bearings and in the wheels you pick up a lot of hair and carpet fibers, so that does make it really important to clean. Excuse me Also, I don't use a spray air freshener for the inside of the boots, but a lot of the times at shoe stores you can buy like deodorant balls and toss them in and you don't get that chemical thing. They're deodorizers. They sit inside the skate and you can leave them in as long as they want and it's constantly deodorizing, not just with the one spray.
Speaker 2:So there's another good thing and, last but not least, I don't really clean the boots all that much, but you want to keep an eye on checking the boots for tears or chips or whatever and stuff that may cause problems down the road. Also, check your shoelaces. If you have laces on your skates, sometimes they might start to fray and you want to get those changed. So very basic, very simple. Sorry for the short episode this week, but it's a holiday week and a little difficult getting guests to have time this week. So I appreciate you guys listening and we will see you next week. You, thank you, thank you.
